Q- Where can I pick up a study guide?
A- Study guides are available at the Mt. Olive Police Communications Center, 204 Flanders Drakestown Rd, Budd Lake, NJ.

Q- Does military experience count in lieu of 60 college credits or an associateís degree?
A- No, our department does not accept military time in lieu of the college requirement.

Q- Do you need to be a resident of NJ in order to take the test?
A- No, you donít need to be a NJ resident to take the test. You must be a resident and possess a NJ driverís license at the time of appointment.

Q- Is there a cutoff age?
A- Yes, you need to be 35 or younger at the time of appointment. This is a requirement of the NJ Police and Fire Pension System.

Q- Does Mount Olive accept transfer scores?
A- No, we do not accept transfer scores for this testing process.

Police Officer Salary/Benefits:
The Mount Olive Police Department offers the following salary and benefits (2015):
  • Starting Salary - $49,906
  • Top Patrol Salary (after 6 years) - $101,201
  • Longevity - 4-6% (based on years of service)
  • Medical and Dental Insurance
  • Vacation - 10-30 days (based on years of service)
  • Holidays - 14 days/year
  • Sick Leave - 14 days/year (includes 6 personal days)
  • Educational Incentive - $1,375/year for degrees in Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Law or Police and Public Administration

    Police Officer Requirements:
  • Must be a citizen of the United States and NJ resident
  • Must possess a valid NJ drivers license
  • Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalency
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must be at least eighteen years old
  • Must not have been convicted of a crime
  • Must have an Associates Degree or have attained 60 college credits

    NOTE: Township Ordinance requires all perspective Police Officer Candidates
    to have met the above requirements at the time of a conditional job offer.

    Police Officer Testing Process:
    The testing process is a comprehensive series of tests and includes:
  • Written Examination-administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police
  • Physical Agility Assessment
  • Oral Interviews
  • Chief of Police Interview
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Background Investigation
  • Medical Examination
