After graduating from Dover High School, Dunster continued his education at County College of Morris graduating with an A.S. in 1971 as the first full-time Criminal Justice major in the college's history. He began his career in law enforcement with the Morris County Sheriff's Department where he worked in the Correctional Facility before moving to the Bureau of Criminal Identification. While there he became a court certified expert in latent fingerprint development and comparison, crime scene investigation and qualified professionally with the New Jersey State Identification Officer's Association, winning awards for color and black and white crime scene photography. After joining the Mount Olive Township Police in September 1976, Dunster worked in the patrol division before being assigned to the Investigations Division in 1980. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1981 and returned to the Patrol Division as a squad supervisor. In 2001 he was assigned to the Communications/Records Division. Sgt. Dunster has received numerous departmental awards including a Meritorious Duty Award, an Honorable Service Award and an Educational Achievement Award. Sgt. Dunster continues to follow his interest in fingerprinting and is a fingerprinting merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.
Sgt. Dunster retired in December 2010 after 34 years of dedicated service to the residents of Mount Olive Township.
