Lieutenant Agens is a 30 year veteran of the department, graduating in 1978 from the New Jersey State Police Academy in Sea Girt. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1986 and to Lieutenant in 1995. Agens served on the department's SWAT Team for over 10 years and was a Team Leader. He is now the Commander of the Records and Communication Division. . He also serves as instructor in handgun, shotgun, sub-machine gun, rifle, and OC pepper spray and department weapons armorer. During his career he received numerous departmental awards including Medal of Honor, Meritorious Duty Award, Life Saving Award, and five Honorable Service Awards, Grand Cordon and an Educational Achievement Award. Agens is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership School, the New York Police Department High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) course, and Northwestern University Executive Management Program. Other training includes F.B.I. Sniper training, Basic and Advanced Criminal Investigation, Practical Homicide Investigation, Basic Computer Data Recovery, Arson Awareness and several levels of Incident Command. Agens is a former member of the Morris County Underwater Search and Rescue team and has basic as well as advanced diver certifications including underwater search and rescue and ice diver. His education includes courses at Seton Hall University, John Jay College, Thomas Edison State College, and Northwestern University.
