Chief Edward Katona, a Budd Lake resident, joined the department in 1980. During his career he has served as a Patrolman, Detective, Investigations Sergeant, Investigations Division Lieutenant, Administration Lieutenant, Captain and since 2000, as Chief of Police. He has received numerous awards including the state Division of Youth and Family Services' Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer Award (1985), The N.J. Crime Victims Law Center Service Award (1997), Man of the Year by the Musconetcong Masonic Lodge 151 (1997), and Person of the Year by the Knights of Columbus Cassidy Council 6100 (2000). He has also received numerous departmental awards including two Exceptional Duty Awards, Meritorious Service Award, Life Saving Award, three Grand Cordons, a Military Service Award and an Educational Achievement Award.
Katona is also active in the community as a Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster, former member of the township Planning Board, Secretary/Treasurer for the Charlie Brown Foundation, Mount Olive Alliance Chairman and member of Council 6100 Knights of Columbus.
Katona is a United States Army veteran where he was a Military Police Supervisor. Katona's education includes a B.S. in Administration of Law Enforcement from William Paterson University and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. He is also a Certified Public Manager.
