After joining the department in July 1989, Pocquat was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 1999, he was transferred to the Detective Bureau until his promotion the following year to Sergeant. He supervised a patrol squad until 2007, when he was assigned to the position of Assistant Patrol Commander. Prior to his retirement he served as the Departmentís Traffic Safety Sergeant.
During his career he has received numerous departmental awards , which include 3 Honorable Service Awards, 2 Life Saving Awards, 2 Grand Cordons, the Physical Fitness Award, and the Educational Achievement Award. He is also the recipient of the Knights of Columbus Shield Award. Pocquat is a former Field Training Officer and served on the department's Special Operations Unit. He was one of the first responders to ground zero on 9/11 and is a Certified Firearms Instructor and Bicycle Patrol Officer. His training includes Northwestern University Accident Investigation I and II, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Activity (HIDTA), OEM Incident Command, Cell Block Management, Internal Affairs Investigations and Supervision of Police Personnel.
Pocquat is a graduate of the NJ State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Program and holds a certificate in Optimum Leadership/Proactive Police Supervision from the Bergen County Institute of Law and Public Safety. He is also a Graduate of and the NJSACOP Police Executive Institute. He is an active member of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and the NJ Police Traffic Officers Association. He is currently working toward obtaining his Certified-Eligible Law Enforcement Executive Certification and holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Lycoming College in Pennsylvania. Sgt. Pocquat retired in November 2015 after 26 years of dedicated service to the residents of Mount Olive Township
